INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The second of two women who tried to scam their way to a State Fair accident payment has been sentenced to a facility for women.
A judge on Friday sentenced Stephanie Murry to three years in Craine House, with another year suspended to be served on probation. Prosecutors said both she and her aunt Sandra Hum filed for compensation, claiming they were victims in the stage rigging collapse at the fair last year, killing seven and injuring dozens. Neither were actually at the concert when the accident happened.
Murry pleaded guilty to forgery and perjury in August and was to have been sentenced Oct. 5, but when she didn’t show up for court , a warrant for her arrest was issued. Jail records show she was arrested the day after and has been held at Marion County Jail since then without bond.
Hurn was sentenced in September to two years home detention and two years probation.
