A red SUV struck the left rear of the trooper's car and left the scene without stopping.

A witness says a suspect pulled into the Lawrence Crossing apartment complex where he left his vehicle and removed the license plate.

Lawrence police officers arrested Michael A. Masters, 33, on preliminary charges of leaving the scene of a crash causing injury, a Class D felony, driving while suspended causing injury, a Class D felony, and driving while suspended, a Class A misdemeanor.

He was taken to the Marion County Arrestee Processing Center.

The state trooper was taken to the hospital for back pain. His female passenger refused transport to the hospital.
