INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The woman accused of shooting and killing Pastor Jaman Iseminger appeared in court for the first time Tuesday morning, and a not guilty plea was entered on her behalf.
Lori Barcroft, 46, covered her face in front of the cameras as she was escorted by deputies into the courtroom Tuesday. She was formally charged with murder, and she asked the judge for a public defender.
Police said she went to Bethel Community Church on Southport Road on Saturday morning. She asked a worker where the pastor was, found him in his office and allegedly shot him. He died shortly after.
Barcroft was found by police a block away and investigators said she had the gun in her pocket. Family members of Barcroft say she had mental disabilities and what she did was pure evil .
Prosecutors said it's unclear if Barcroft is mentally stable enough for a trial. She will undergo a mental evaluation in the next couple of days. Her next hearing was set for June 28, with a jury trial set for July 23, according to court officials.
Meanwhile, funeral arrangements for the pastor have been set for Wednesday at Southport Presbyterian Church. Visitation starts at 2 p.m., followed by the funeral at 3:30 p.m.
