INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A 12-year-old girl is in critical condition Saturday morning after she was struck by a passing motorist as she got off an IndyGo bus.
Emergency officials say the girl was getting off the bus Friday evening around 10pm.
It was stopped in the northbound lanes on Arlington Avenue near 12th Street at the time of the accident.
The 12-year-old girl was with her family and ran out in front of the bus, into the path of a northbound van.
Police reports state that the driver of the van saw the girl crossing the road and hit the brakes, but was unable to stop in time.
The girl was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital.
The driver of the van agreed to have her blood drawn for a drug and alcohol test as part of the investigation, police said.
