Teen says driver had porn on school bus

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Porn on a school bus? An Indianapolis Public Schools eighth-grader said it was in plain view, and he and his friends saw it. And now, the family wants IPS to take action.

"It was behind the bus driver’s seat. But you could actually see the back cover of where everything was out," said 15-year-old Brian Gibson, an eighth-grader at Emma Donnen Middle School on the east side of Indianapolis.

On the bus, on the way home Wednesday, Brian said, one of his friends caught his attention, telling him to look behind the bus drivers seat.

"He told me, and there was a porn magazine sitting right behind him, where you can actually see penetration," the teen said.

He added that he verified it a few minutes later: "When I got off the bus, I could get a good look at it. And, yeah, it was."

Brian said when he got home he called his mom to tell her what he saw.

"I was furious," said his mother, Teresa Gibson. She said she immediately began making calls, talking to an assistant principal at the school, and several people at IPS transportation.

Eventually, she said one told her this: "He says, well as long as they got it hid, if they're going to have it on the bus, to him, it sounds like it's fine,"

But IPS spokeswoman Mary Louise Bewley said it's not fine, and an adult magazine has no place on an IPS bus. But she said right now it's an allegation.

"We are investigating the claim,” she said. “We are talking with other students to find out what they saw, and we will let you know what we find."

Gibson said the situation is scary.

"Is he looking at it before they walk out the door to get on that bus? And if he is, what's he thinking about your child, your daughter your son? What's he thinking about that?"

She said when her son went to the bus stop this morning, the same bus driver showed up and her son wouldn't get on the bus. Instead he went back home. She wants the bus driver fired, but IPS said it won't take any action until it can verify the story.
