INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Indiana State Police have confirmed that thieves stole metal from the wreckage of the State Fair stage collapse at the warehouse where it is being kept.
I-Team 8 obtained exclusive information about the break-in Thursday. Attorneys representing victims in the case have been notified of the theft. One of them, Ken Allen, told 24-Hour News 8 anchor Karen Hensel that when he heard the news, he had “disbelief that more bad things could happen … more negligence.”
The wreckage of the stage rigging collapse, which killed seven people and injured dozens last August, was reconstructed inside the warehouse after the onsite investigation was completed. It was under protection of a court order, with a judge ordering nothing be moved, and Indiana State Police had been closely guarding it at one point. But now, I-Team 8 is asking if security was still tight and, if so, who was supposed to be watching it when the break-in occurred.
