INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - More than 8,000 central Indiana residents came out to White River State Park Saturday for the annual American Heart Association Heart Walk and 5K Run.
The annual event celebrates survivors of heart disease and stroke and raises money for the ongoing battle against the No. 1 and No. 4 killers of Americans, according to a release.
Three individuals were honored with the Lifestyle Change Award for making positive changes to improve their health over the past year.
At the Walk and Run, Indianapolis cheerleader Jessica Anderson was honored with the Heart Saver Hero Award.
Anderson performed CPR on a football coach in July during a game. She saved his life.
This year’s event is expected to raise more than $890,000. Most of the money will remain in central Indiana to fund research, community programs and education.
