INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The 20th Annual Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s returned to Indianapolis Sunday.
More than 3,000 participants gathered to walk, learn about the disease, and to get involved in the cause.
Alzheimer's disease is a growing epidemic and is now the nation's sixth-leading cause of death, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. Today it is estimated that 5.4 million Americans are living with the disease.
Registrants could choose to participate in a one or three mile walk and were also each given a Promise Flower to add to the Promise Garden. The flowers represent the many reasons why participants gathered.
This year's walk raised more than $610,000. The Alzheimer's Association expects additional funds will come in over the next several weeks.
