INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The YMCA handed out toys to thousands of deserving kids on Saturday at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Four thousand kids were able to get one or two toys this year from Toys for Tots.
The Marine Corps’ annual fundraiser brings toys to kids up to the age of 15. Every year Mayor Ballard is on hand when YMCA volunteers hand out the toys.
The Mayor says, seeing the kids is the best part of his day. “Its hard not to smile through all of that but I also like to visit with the volunteers as much as I can also because they could be doing other things, but they chose to come out here and make Christmas joy for everybody else,” says Mayor Greg Ballard.
The Marine Corps Toys for Tots in the Marion County and surrounding area handed out 33,000 toys last year. This year organizers say, they're right on track.
The YMCA's collection is over, but there are collections still going on throughout Marion County.
