INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A special ceremony was held this morning for 35 Indiana National Guard Soldiers headed to Afghanistan.
Indiana's Adjutant General, Major General R. Martin Umbarger bid farewell to the soldiers who are with Battery E, 139th Field Artillery.
The unit is heading to Fort Bliss, Texas for several weeks of training prior to deploying to Afghanistan.
The unit will conduct target acquisition operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Battery E headquartered at the 38th Infantry Division Armory, is commanded by Captain Dan Rector, and 1st Sergeant James Papay is the senior enlisted Soldier.
