Trucking company plans $5M training center

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis-based trucking company Celadon Group Inc. plans to build a $5.25 million driver-training center and add 182 new workers to its central Indiana workforce.
Documents filed with the city of Indianapolis show that in return Celadon is seeking property-tax abatements worth $212,000.The Metropolitan Development Commission could vote Jan. 16 on final approval of those abatements.
The Indianapolis Business Journal reports that Celadon plans to build a 60,000-square-foot driver training center in Indianapolis that would include a dormitory for driver trainees. The company says it will add 182 workers to its 633-employee local workforce by 2016.
Celadon has typically hired experienced drivers who crisscross the United States, Canada and Mexico. It's one of the nation's largest truckload carriers, with 4,000 employees.
