INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A 13-year-old boy was pulled from a mobile home park’s swimming pool and rushed to Riley Hospital for Children Monday after being underwater for several minutes.
Rescue crews were called to the Valley Brook mobile home community at 4620 S. High School Road with word of the near drowning.
Police say another child pulled the unresponsive teen from the water and someone at the scene performed CPR until the fire department arrived.
"I was just looking and talking to my buddy, and he said there was somebody at the bottom of the pool," said Jade O'Neal. "So I looked down and I dove in."
Medics rushed the teen to the hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
24-Hour News 8 has learned the victim’s birthday was Monday and the incident happened during his birthday party. Police say 15-20 other people were there at the time.
Residents say there is no lifeguard at the pool. Police say they won’t fault the community’s management for the incident.
The community pool is now closed. At the teen's family's apartment, a happy birthday sign still hangs over the front doorway.
"He's a nice kid, seemed really curious and smart, a real good kid," said apartment worker Andy Stretch.
