INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - More than 200 volunteers helped spruce up the Wholesale District of Indianapolis Monday.

Monday’s Beautification Day was a partnership with The Greater Indianapolis Hotel and Lodging Association, Indianapolis Downtown Inc., the city of Indianapolis and area businesses.

The Wholesale District reaches from New York Street to South Street and from West Street to Delaware Street, including the Marriott Place complex. Many of the volunteers were from the businesses in the wholesale district.

Volunteers cleaned up the streets and sidewalks, removed stickers and painted over graffiti. This was the fifth annual spring cleaning and planting in the Wholesale District. The workers also put summer flowers in planters.

"Oh this is a lot of fun. I think it is a great idea. It helps keep Indianapolis clean downtown and I know from the guests that we have in our hotel, a lot of times that is one of the first things they mention is how clean the downtown area is,” said Regina Brown from the Hampton Inn. “So I think it is an awesome thing and everybody working together, we can get it all cleaned up.”
