INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A water main break in the Allisonville Road/Interstate 465 construction zone will delay the completion of the road project.
Indiana Department of Transportation officials say the water main broke over the weekend. Crews with Citizens Water repaired it. Now the utility says it will replace the water main. That work is expected to take up to two weeks. INDOT approved it.
"What we don't want is to patch the water main and have to come back and have the water company come back weeks, months, (a) short time from now and have to rip up brand new pavement for something we can do right now and fix the problem," said INDOT spokesman Nathan Riggs.
The new bridge over I-465 was set to open later this month. When the bridge does open to traffic, construction crews will take an additional 25 days to complete shoulder work and landscaping across the construction zone.
Once the project is complete, INDOT says construction crews will reconstruct the left lane and shoulder of westbound I-465 between Allisonville Road and I-69. Most of that work will be completed during night time hours. INDOT says three lanes of westbound 465 will remain open during the duration of the project.
INDOT also plans to complete work around I-465 and Crawfordsville Road by the end of October.
