INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The new Wishard Hospital is getting a boost, after a couple donated $40 million to the cause.
Construction continues for the new hospital, which will get a new name as a result of the donation from Sidney and Lois Eskenazi.
Wishard officials say it’s the largest gift to their facility and one of the largest gifts to a public hospital in the history of the U.S.
Speakers will gather at the construction site to celebrate and discuss the donation on Wednesday.
The couple said they were glad to have an opportunity to positively affect people. They also said the scope of the hospital’s reach contributed to their desire to make the donation.
The new hospital, which opens in December 2013, will be named the Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital. The health system would become Eskenazi Health.
