INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says an 83-year-old woman dies after being struck by a vehicle.
The incident occurred near Washington Street and Post Road around 7:36 p.m. According to a release from IMPD, a blue Chevrolet van, driven by 54-year-old Jacqueling Shepherd of Martinsville, was traveling westbound on Washington. She did not see the elderly woman crossing or wandering into the road.
Officers say the woman suffers from a possible medical condition that often caused her to wander into the street. She was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition after the accident. The woman's name has not yet been released.
Police say the driver of the vehicle and the passenger were not injured in the incident. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this accident.
