Young victims of ambulance crash remembered

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The young victims of Saturday morning’s ambulance accident are remembered as determined, selfless and motivated in life.

Indianapolis EMTs Cody Medley, 22,  and Timothy McCormick, 24, died after the ambulance they were in was hit by a car at the intersection of Senate and St. Clair streets.

Throughout the day Sunday, colleagues, friends and even strangers stopped by to reflect at the crash scene.

McCormick’s boyfriend, Alex Brinley also came to the scene, to say goodbye.

“I wouldn’t be half the person I am today without him,” Brinley said.

Brinley says the two had been together for about a year. He describes McCormick as selfless, and a recently graduated political science major.

“There’s no one that I’ve spoken to that hasn’t had a million nice things to say about him,” he said.

“I don’t think anyone that’s ever met him will ever forget him,” Brinley said.

Medley’s family remembered him at a press conference held early Sunday afternoon.

Cody’s father Jeff wore his son’s jacket.

“I could not be prouder of this boy, of this man right here, man, he's an incredible person and I wish you all could've got to know him,” he said.

Medley graduated from high school in Scranton, Penn., and is remembered as a man who loved the outdoors, especially hunting and skiing.

He started training, then working as an EMT and firefighter in Sunman, Ind. in 2007.

Sunman Fire Chief Bill Craig said, “He was just a very good individual, salt of the earth type person. We still consider him one of our own.”

A wake for Private McCormick is planned from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Crown Hill Cemetery. His funeral is set for 10"30 a.m. Tuesday at SS. Peter and Paul Cathedral, 1347 North Meridian St.

Memorial service information for Specialist Medley was still being finalized as on Sunday night.

A joint memorial service will be held for both Private McCormick and Specialist Medley at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Clowes Memorial Hall on the Butler University campus. It will be open to the public.
