$1.5 mil. gift will fund math endowment at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - A man who applied to Purdue University more than 40 years ago because there was no application fee for the master's program has donated $1.5 million to his alma mater for its Department of Mathematics.
The Journal & Courier reports the donation by 66-year-old Andris Zoltners of Evanston, Ill., is the largest cash gift for the department. Zoltners later became a professor and author known for sales force management and co-founder of a global sales and marketing consulting firm in Chicago.
The school added $1 million to the donation as part of an institutional matching program. That means the department now has $2.5 million to create an endowment for recruiting and retaining a top math professor.
