MIAMI CO., Ind. (WISH) - Two people were taken to the hospital via life line after a serious crash Friday in Miami County.
Peru State Police Post arrived to the scene of a semi-truck and car crash on US 31 southbound, south of Business 31 near Peru, Ind.
Investigators say a white 2001 Volvo pulling a box trailer driven by Matthew A. Bryan, 35, from Evansville, Ind. was going southbound from the traffic light that had just turned green.
A yellow 2001 Ford Escape driven by Elizabeth Mari Anne Hoffer, 22, from Plymouth, Indiana was traveling southbound in the right lane and failed to slow for the semi and ran into the rear of the trailer, according to police.
Police say Hoffer and her passenger, Brandon L. Howard 29, from South Bend, Ind. were life lined by Lutheran Air Helicopter and Samaritan II Helicopter to Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne, Ind.
Howard had to be pulled from the vehicle and both he and Hoffer sustained serious injuries. It is unknown if either was wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the semi was not injured and he was wearing his seat belt, according to police.
Bryan was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
US 31 was closed approximately two hours for safety equipment and cleanup.
No traffic citations have been issued at this time. The investigation is continuing.
