Apartment gas leak repairs planned

ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) - The owners of a central Indiana apartment complex closed because of natural gas leaks have agreed with city officials on repair plans to reopen its 96 apartments.

Anderson building commissioner Frank Owens says he believes the owners of Arbor Village Apartments understand what work is needed and that they've invested enough in the complex to not walk away.

Officials ordered residents to leave on Dec. 5 after small leaks were found in all five of the complex's buildings.

Arbor Village attorney J.R. Builta tells The Herald Bulletin the iron and steel gas lines were buried in concrete when the complex was built in the 1960s, causing them to deteriorate more quickly. He says the owners have spent $800,000 on the complex since buying it from bank receivership.
