Ball State settles ex-coach's lawsuit for $710,000

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - Ball State's former women's tennis coach is dropping her wrongful termination lawsuit in exchange for a settlement package worth $710,000.
Kathy Bull coached the Cardinals for 20 seasons before being fired in 2009 after the school reported rules infractions that led the NCAA to put the tennis program on probation for three years.
Bull filed a federal lawsuit, arguing administrators intentionally trumped up the allegations against her.
A lawyer for Bull tells The Star Press ( http://tspne.ws/Mv8kmk ) the settlement includes $550,000 cash and health benefits for life.
Ball State spokesman Tony Proudfoot says the school believes it would've won the trial but decided with its insurance company to negotiate the settlement to end the legal proceedings.
