WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Gov. Mitch Daniels is getting a taste of his next job as Purdue University's president.
Daniels attended a pep rally for more than 5,000 freshmen and new students Monday during Boiler Gold Rush, a weeklong orientation program on the main campus in West Lafayette.
With members of the women's volleyball and soccer teams and football coach Danny Hope looking on, Daniels noted Purdue athletes have an average grade-point average of 3.0, and he urged the new students to do even better.
Daniels won't officially join Purdue until January, but the Lafayette Journal and Courier reports he's trying to become a constant face of Purdue. He and interim President Tim Sands welcomed the new students Sunday night.
