LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A fallen tree took out a power line Wednesday, which was captured on video by a police car's dash camera.

Just before noon, it was reported to Lafayette Police Department (LPD) dispatchers that a tree had fallen on a power line near Fourth Street and Teal Road.

LPD said the traffic lights at that intersection were out due to a tree hanging over the power lines.

Our crew on the scene said Teal Road was closed between Bennett Road and Fourth Street.

The area around the intersection was without power as well, including Valley Plaza shopping center and several homes.

LPD says Duke Energy crews had to first cut the tree and then repair the line before everything could return back to normal at the intersection.

A passing police car happened to be at the right place at the right time, catching on-camera the tree falling onto the power lines, and cars swerving to avoid it.

The intersection was back open by 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
