GAS CITY, Ind. (WISH) - A fatal crash closed Interstate 69 for several more hours in Grant County.
The crash happened just before 3:30 p.m. Friday near the Gas City exit. Traffic was being diverted onto Ind. 22, Indiana State Police said. Indiana State Police said the crash involved a semi, a box truck and a passenger vehicle. The drivers of the semi and a Buick had slowed for construction when the box truck ran into the Buick from behind, pushing it into the semi.
The semi burst into flames, at one point reaching 15 feet in the air, 24-Hour News 8 news partner WANE-TV reported. The flames also sparked a grass fire.
The driver of the Buick was killed, and the driver of the box truck was taken to Marion General Hospital, then flown to an Indianapolis hospital. The driver of the semi was unhurt.
The interstate was partially reopened at about 8:30 p.m., INDOT said. No identity information was available Friday evening.
