Fire truck catches fire on I-65

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - It's the job of fire trucks to extinguish fires, but Saturday, a fire truck needed a little help of its own.

According to Indiana State Police, an antique fire truck caught fire on I-65, five miles south of the highway 38 exit. The call came in around 10:00 Saturday morning.

Police said a company from Alabama bought the truck at an auction sale in Brook, Indiana. As the crew was heading home with their purchase, an electrical fire broke out.

Tammy Johnson was driving to Indianapolis with her family and witnessed the fire. She said when she pulled up beside the truck to help, she noticed something ironic.

"No fire extinguisher, no water, no nothing," said Johnson. "Usually when we drive my husbands jeep, he has a fire extinguisher, but we decided to take my jeep and I don't have a fire extinguisher, but we're going to be checking in to getting one of those."

The Sheffield Fire Department responded to the call. Police said nobody was injured in the fire. The southbound lane of I-65 was closed until the fire was extinguished.
