LEBANON, Ind. (WISH) - Five people who say they were fired by the Lebanon Public Library last year for reportedly faking time cards, have sues the library in federal court.
The five former employees, Jocelyn Lewis, Connie Bruder, Anna Goben, Marie Brown and Jim Brown, say the library's director Kay Martin violated their First Amendment rights.
The group says they broughtt a lawsuit to county court after they told library officials that Chase Martin was falsifying his time cards. Martin is the son of the library director. The group says they were fired after bringing their concern to the attention of library officials.
According to our partners at the Lebanon Reporter , library's lawyers said in a court motion that the plaintiffs had not exhausted other options, including required administrative procedures. Therefore, the first lawsuit was withdrawn.
Now, the group is seeking no less than $600,000 in damages and for their jobs back. Additionally, they are seeking back pay, the value of lost benefits, interest, attorney fees and other relief.
