Weekend of fundraisers to benefit Pendleton woman severely hurt in fair stage collapse

PENDLETON, Ind. (WISH) - Andrea Vellinga was critically injured when the stage at the Indiana State Fair collapsed. But now, against all odds, she continues her fight back to health.

This weekend, Vellinga's family, friends and former high school joined together to raise money to help with her mounting medical bills.

“Her medical bills are outrageous,” said Andrea’s best friend, Jennifer Hathcoat.

Friends decorated a pink float for Andrea that was in Pendleton Heights High School’s homecoming parade Friday evening. Pink is Andrea’s favorite color.

The football game kicked off with a pink balloon release; cheerleaders held pink pom-pons; and pink merchandise on hand sold quickly. All proceeds went directly to Andrea’s family.

“We do not want her and her family to spend their time rehabbing her and her to spend all her hard work just for them to return and be in a mountain of debt,” Hathcoat said.
