ELWOOD, Ind. (WISH) - One person was killed in a crash near Elwood that shut down Ind. 37 Tuesday morning, Madison County Sheriff Ron Richardson said.

Ind. 37 was reopened at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday.

The crash happened just before 9 a.m. on Ind. 37, near County Road 900 North, Sheriff Richardson said. A driver in a Volkswagon was northbound on Ind. 37 when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a large box truck. The Volkswagon’s driver was pinned in the wreckage and pronounced dead at the scene.

Christopher Al Therr, the driver of the box truck, was taken by ambulance to an Elwood hospital.

The name of the other victim wasn’t released, pending notification of family members.
