LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Lafayette police say a department review board found that an officer was justified when she shot at a suspect's pickup truck as it was driving toward her.

Officer Donna Gregorash shot at the truck and a suspect fired back last Thursday as she responded to a report of a man being held against his will in an IHOP restaurant's parking lot. The truck's driver and a passenger both died after the vehicle crashed into the garage of a house.

Police say a review of the shooting showed Gregorash followed department policy in the shooting.

The cause of death of the two men who died in the truck remains unclear. The 62-year-old passenger was shot in the right calf and lower left ankle. The truck's driver was a 46-year-old homeless man.
