Subaru promises 100 new jobs in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - One hundred new jobs are being promised by one of Lafayette's largest employers, Subaru Automotive of Indiana.

Governor Mitch Daniels stood side-by-side with leaders from SIA and Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski Wednesday to announce the arrival of 100 new jobs over the next two years at the Lafayette facility behind me.

The expansion is part of a $75 million dollar expansion and addition to the Lafayette plant here, due in large part to the growing demand for Subaru products that are doing well in national auto sales.

Governor Daniels said he's proud, but not surprised.

Both the governor and the mayor credit a business friendly environment both here in Lafayette and in the state.

“It all starts with building the best sandbox possible, and that's what we've been working on for years. Indiana is one of the top five. Only state in the Midwest, only place out of the sunbelt that makes these lists. Why? Low taxes, and quick regulation which SIA keeps talking about appreciating here,” said Governor Daniels.

“You know we offered tax abatements as we typically do and incentives as far as training dollars to assist with the project. And you know our relationship with Purdue University, Ivy Tech to train the employees, on-going training, certifications that need to happen,” said Mayor Roswarski.

We’re told by Mayor Roswarski those jobs will start around $15 an hour, with benefits and room of course for growth and a pay raise.

Hiring won’t begin until the construction is complete (2013 and after), not immediately.

You can head to SIA’s website or ctipersonnel.com for more information.
