LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - A judge has rejected a plea agreement for a central Indiana soldier who lost his lower right leg during an attack in Afghanistan to charges that he fired a gun during an argument outside a bar.
Tippecanoe County prosecutors had agreed to drop felony charges against 25-year-old Eric Braman of Lafayette for firing two shots last August in which one man was hit by debris.
The Journal & Courier reports ( http://on.jconline.com/Ln3Smz ) Judge Les Meade said during a Wednesday court hearing he didn't think Braman should go to jail, but that the one-year maximum supervision allowed for a misdemeanor conviction wasn't enough.
Braman's attorney says he has suffered from adjustment disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder since his 2010 injuries. The shooting happened the night before a planned homecoming parade for Braman.
