KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) - A Kokomo native will be North Central College's next president, only the 10th in the school's 151-year history.

Dr. Troy D. Hammond, 45, a scientist, teacher and entrepreneur earned his Ph.D. in experimental atomic physics in 1996 from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Milligan College, our partners at the Kokomo Tribune report. Hammond continued his education at Georgia Tech, where he earned a second undergraduate degree, a bachelor of science in physics, and won a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship.

Hammond and his family moved to Naperville in 2010 when he became president of the energy services business at BlueStar Energy.

With his expertise in renewable energy technologies and sustainability, he provided commercial, industrial and institutional customers with energy efficiency services.
