KOKOMO, Ind. (AP) - The man charged with a Kokomo shooting spree in which two people were killed and two others wounded has been found competent to stand trial.
The Kokomo Tribune reports ( http://bit.ly/IJCIrC ) that ruling comes after two doctors did psychiatric exams of Turama Stitts of Kokomo. Stitts remains in the Howard County jail on murder and attempted murder charges, with his next court hearing scheduled in August.
His defense attorneys have planned on arguing that he was insane when police say he went on a random shooting spree, shooting one person on Jan. 26 and the others Jan. 27. A friend told police that Stitts was off his medication for several days and was acting strangely before the shootings.
Prosecutors are seeking life in prison without the possibility of parole.
