LOGANSPORT, Ind. (AP) - Fire destroyed a vacant warehouse that officials in the northern Indiana city had sought to have demolished.

The fire was spotted Thursday afternoon in the two-story brick warehouse in downtown Logansport and sent large plumes of smoke over the city.

Assistant Chief Rick Bair tells WLFI-TV that flames were showing when firefighters arrived and within five minutes a wall of the warehouse collapsed.

The Pharos-Tribune reports the warehouse was built in 1900 and that city officials had asked repeatedly for its owner to demolish or repair the building after bricks fell from its walls.

Bair says firefighters had the blaze under control in about an hour but that some nearby buildings likely had smoke and water damage. No injuries were reported and the fire's cause wasn't immediately known.
