WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WISH) - A West Lafayette man was injured after he fell from a tree stand. Investigators say the straps securing the stand were severely rusted.
John P. Chadwell, 50, was climbing a tree stand when he says the stand broke off of the tree, causing him to fall 15 feet to the ground.
Medical personal were called to the scene just after 8:15 a.m. on Saturday and Chadwell was taken by ambulance to IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.
Investigators found the straps securing the tree stand were severely rusted. Chadwell’s son says the stand was left outdoors from the previous season.
Chadwell was wearing a full body tree stand safety harness, but was not tethered to the tree when he fell.
