ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) - An Alexandria man was sentenced to eight years in prison for his role in a fatal crash, 24-Hour News 8 news partner The Herald Bulletin reports .

Paul Coy, now 20, was driving when the car he and three other teens were in ran off the road and hit a tree along Madison County Road 100 West in March. One passenger, Darian Hurn, 17, died from his injuries . Coy and the two other passengers, both teen girls, were also treated for injuries.

Coy was arrested in June and a jury found him guilty of reckless homicide and two counts of criminal recklessness earlier this month. He was sentenced this week to eight years in prison.

Investigators said the crash was the result of a drag race between the car that crashed and another car, court documents said. The newspaper reports Coy said during his sentencing hearing that he plans to speak at schools about the dangers of racing on public roads.
