KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) - After 31 years of efforts, a developer said he's ready to start construction on a Central Indiana landfill.
Ralph Reed, owner of JM Corporation recently received a state permit to begin the project. However many residents, as well as the city's mayor, are opposed to the 13-acre Mallard Lake landfill and plan to appeal the permit.
Friday, Mayor Kris Ockomon spoke publicly on the issue.
"I look down upon a person who would put money in front of someone's life. My question is, why here at this location and why now?" asked Ockomon.
The mayor's statement was the first any Anderson administrator has made on the issue.
Reed says the landfill will save Anderson residents money since trash wouldn't have to be hauled out of county.
A couple from Benton County was arrested for meth Saturday afternoon.
