ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) - Memorial services for two Anderson Police Department K-9 officers was held Saturday.
The Anderson Police Department and Loyal and True Pet Cremation Services invited members of the community to honor and pay tribute to Kilo and Magnum. The two K-9 officers were killed in the line of duty within three weeks.
Kilo was the first Anderson Police K-9 to die in the line of duty. He was shot and killed during a standoff on July 26.
Magnum was shot just over three weeks later on Aug. 18 as he was tracking down the suspect of a bank robbery.
K-9 handlers and officers from around the state and county were expected to attend the ceremony Saturday.
Following the service, a fire truck followed by the K-9 cruisers that Kilo and Magnum rode in will lead a procession through Anderson.
A radio dispatch will give a final call for Kilo and Magnum, followed by a flag folding and the playing of Taps to complete the service.
A permanent K-9 Memorial is being erected and will be dedicated in the spring of 2013 at The Gardens of Willowcrest Park.
