WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WISH) - Former Gov. Mitch Daniels has traded the Statehouse for a music video.

Daniels appears in a music video Purdue University engineering students created, covering the song “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. He’s decked out in sunglasses toward the beginning.

Purdue spokesman Chris Sigurdson said it’s just one of a number of places Daniels has been spotted with students. He has had regular dinners with students throughout the week. Students reached out to Daniels asking him to appear in the music video, which playfully promotes the engineering department.

“As long as it didn’t embarrass the university, he was game,” Sigurdson said Tuesday.

Although the video is funny, Sigurdson said Daniels is seriously interested in promoting the school’s engineering program.

“Engineering is one of those things that we’re known for and we’re good at, and this promotes engineering,” Sigurdson said.

The video does include a small insult aimed at Indiana University, with a quiet mention of “IU sucks.” Sigurdson said Daniels wasn’t aware it would be included. View the video below:
