MUNCIE, Ind. (WISH) - Fifty-seven tickets were issued this weekend at Ball State University.

Indiana State Excise Police officers issued 57 citations while patrolling around Ball State on Friday and Saturday nights, according to police.

On Friday, excise officers cited 19 people on a total of 32 charges, most for illegal consumption of alcohol.

Other tickets were issued for minor transporting alcohol, possession of false ID, open container violation and traffic offenses.

Two adults were cited for furnishing alcohol to a minor. One juvenile was cited for illegal possession of alcohol and possession of tobacco.

On Saturday, 15 minors were cited on 19 charges including illegal possession of alcohol, possession of marijuana, false informing and various traffic violations.

Two adults were cited for furnishing alcohol to minors.

Those cited this weekend will appear in court.

Officers were working in Muncie this weekend as part of the Intensified College Enforcement (ICE) program that launched last semester.

The program aims to reduce underage access to and use of alcohol at six college campuses. Those include Ball State, Butler, Indiana, Indiana State, Notre Dame and Purdue, according to a release.

“Young adults entering college and beginning their lives beyond the high school years is expected to be an exciting time,” Superintendent Matt Strittmatter said. “It is our responsibility to ensure that freshmen begin their college experience safely and within the confines of the law, which means that we will continue to make certain that the accessibility of alcohol to underage students is minimized for their safety as well as the community as a whole.”
