SHADELAND, Ind. (WLFI) - One person died in a construction accident in Tippecanoe County Wednesday morning.

A call came in to the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's office at 9:28 a.m. from a lot near 300 South and Henry Street in Shadeland.

Construction crews were trying to fill a dug-out pool with cement at the time. There was a worker inside the pool when the pool's embankment gave way. That's when the concrete truck next to the pool rolled over into the pool, landing on top of the worker.

Crews pronounced that worker dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck was taken to St. Elizabeth East hospital to be screened for drugs and alcohol, but officials said it is unlikely drugs or alcohol were involved.

The concrete truck driver was not injured.

"The driver of the cement truck was taken to the hospital for a blood draw, which is a standard procedure anytime there's a fatal accident. At this time, we don't suspect drugs or alcohol were involved," said Lieutenant Ron Faith, Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department.
