MARION, Ind. (WISH) - One person is dead and another hospitalized after a shooting late Thursday night in Marion.

Police are looking for a shooter that remained on the loose early Friday morning.

The shooting happened around 10:20 p.m. Thursday near 30th & Nebraska streets on the south side of Marion.

Investigators said two people were shot inside a car in an alley. One victim got out and ran up the street to a local diner, where police were called.

"It's scary, too much violence in this world," said Nancy Cox.

Both victims were taken to Marion General Hospital, where one victim was pronounced dead. The second victim continues to be treated for gunshot injuries.

Victim information has not been released, pending family notification.

"We're following up on leads that we have, witnesses that we're talking to, the neighborhood canvasses that we've done, trying to gather information, obviously, about the shooting," said Marion Deputy Police Chief Cliff Sessoms.

Sessoms said they do have a person of interest they are seeking at this time. He would not release the identity of the person investigators have on their radar.

This marks the third murder in Marion this year. Neighbors describe the area where the shooting happened as a quiet neighborhood with a few problems.

Despite that description some residents still had very little to say about what transpired in the alley on Thursday night.

"I don't know nothing, I didn't see, nothing or hearing anything," said a man who was peering out of his door looking at the murder scene.
