Police: Pregnant teen beaten by peers

MUNCIE, Ind. (WISH) - A pregnant Muncie teen is recovering after police say she was brutally attacked by a group of girls.

Kelsey Lemon,17, was released from the hospital over the weekend. She's five weeks pregnant and will find out Wednesday if the attack had any affect on her pregnancy.

Two of her three attackers are behind bars.

Four pictures showed the serious injuries, including two black eyes, Lemon sustained in a brutal attack.

Last Friday, police said Lemon was lured to a Muncie intersection. She left in an ambulance for Ball Memorial Hospital.

"Find out who your friends are," Lemon said.

Lemon recalled the attack to 24-Hour-news 8 Tuesday.

 "I sat in the car; I was sitting out front and she was asking me to come in and I had a feeling something was going to happen to me," she said.

Lemon said out of nowhere her friend started to attack her and the blows didn't stop.

"Looked over and here came Olivia and she was yelling at me; I told her I was pregnant. Please not to come; don't start anything and she came and start hitting me through the window," Lemon said.

 "We had a passerby tell us she saw one of the females reach in,  punching through the windshield at the girl," said Det. Jim Johnson with the Muncie Police Dept.

"While she was hitting me, the other girl was taking my keys out of my ignition. I told her I was going to call 911. She snatched my phone from me," Lemon said.

Police said the girls eventually pulled Lemon out of her car and began beating her. They even slashed her tires and etched profanity on the hood of her car

"They admitted to it and one of them admitted to being the aggressor in the fight," Det. Johnson said.

Two of suspects turned themselves in to police.

After talking to detectives, Ashley Smith and Olivia Smith, no relation, were escorted off to jail in handcuffs. Police are waiting for the third suspect.

"We know who she is and we have been on the phone with her and trying to get her to do the right thing and turn herself in," said Det. Johnson.

Detective Johnson said their concern now is Lemon's pregnancy.

Lemon said the attack was uncalled for.

"How could you do this; I could never do this to anybody," she said.

Muncie detectives said the attack may have happened because of a possible call to Child Protective Services about one of the attackers.

They are still checking that claim out.

The suspects in jail are facing felony charges of battery on a pregnant female.
