Police: School threat not legitimate

ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) - Police found no legitimacy to an online threat of violence at Anderson High School, 24-Hour News 8 news partner The Herald Bulletin reports .

Investigators questioned students at the school Wednesday after receiving information about a post on Facebook that threatened violence sometime this week. And though this threat was not found to be serious, there will be officers on the school campus for the remainder of the semester as a precaution, the newspaper reports. Friday is the last day of school before the holiday break.

Such threats can feed fear even if they aren't legitimate, said Detective William Casey of the Anderson Police Department.

"It can be like chasing a phantom," he said. "A lot of people are worried after what happened in Connecticut, and a lot of times kids hear about that and want to make up their own rumors."
