ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) - A routine stop for a seat belt violation led to a police chase in Anderson Friday.
Marc Miquels II, 21, now faces charges including attempted murder of an officer after police caught him on-foot in Redbud Estates.
The chase started shortly before 5 p.m., when Edgewood Police officers tried to pull Miquels over for a traffic violation, our partners at the Herald Bulletin report.
Police say Miquels fled the red and white 1990 GMC Sierra during the traffic stop. Two passengers, Quentin Hinkle and Devon Osborn, got out of the vehicle and police took them into custody. Both men face charges of resisting law enforcement.
Officers caught up with Miguels on West 38th Street. Police say Miguels drove his car at one of the officers, trying to hit him. The officer fired one round of shots at Miguel as he jumped out of the vehicle's path.
The truck kept going and ended up stuck in a creek bed. After the crash, Miguels proceeded to flee on foot.
Officers chased him into Redbud Estates, where Miquels pulled a knife on a Pendleton officer. When Miguels was ordered to drop the weapon, he held it to his own throat.
Officers used a Taser on Miguels and took him into custody.
Miquels was taken to the Madison County Jail and faces a felony charge of intimidation by pointing a weapon, a D felony charge of fleeing in a vehicle, and an A misdemeanor charge of fleeing on foot, in addition to the attempted murder charge. Other charges could be added later.
Police say Miquels had four warrants against him before the chase.
