WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A woman claims she was assaulted on Sunday afternoon but after responding, Purdue police determined the story has no basis.

Officers arrived at the Grant Street parking garage around 2 that afternoon.

Officers checked the area for the alleged assailant and found no one.

The woman was taken to the police station where she was questioned about the incident. That's when police determined the story had no support.

"The information that we were given in the beginning was different than what it was at the very end. What we determined was there was no perpetrator out there. It was unfounded," said Purdue Police Chief John Cox.

Cox said the woman was released and as far as they are concerned the case is closed.
