PENDLETON, Ind. (WISH) - Residents are invited to unite in prayer in Pendleton Friday night, following an incident that left two people and a K-9 dead, and two police officers injured.

Pendleton Police say Jim Kenneth Bailey began firing a gun, accidentally shooting a new neighbor, before intentionally firing at officers. At the end of the standoff, police believe Bailey shot himself.

At 7 p.m., Pendleton Christian Church will host a prayer vigil in the church’s auditorium.

“As we watch events unfold in our nation around the recent tragedy in Colorado and then hear the stories of what transpired in our own community, our hearts are saddened,” said Gina Care, of Pendleton Christian Church, in a news release.

Care urged prayer as the community “seeks understanding, comfort and peace.”

The church is located at 1170 Old State Road 9 South in Pendleton.
