Purdue looks into possible 2nd Typhoid fever case

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Health officials on Purdue University's main campus in West Lafayette possibly have a second case of typhoid fever.

Purdue spokeswoman Jeanne Norberg tells WLFI-TV the Purdue Student Health Center treated someone Wednesday complaining of mild symptoms. Lab results generally take three to five days to come back.

The Indiana State Department of Health has said a food handler at Purdue is believed to have contracted the disease while traveling abroad.

State officials say people who ate at Purdue's Boiler Bistro, John Purdue Room or the coffee shop Lavazza on Jan. 23-25 might have been exposed.

Symptoms typically appear eight to 14 days after exposure. They include high fever, weakness, stomach pains, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite and sometimes a rose-colored rash.
