WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Purdue University says donations to the school rose by 32 percent during the past year for its second-best fundraising year.

Purdue says $298.8 million was donated to the university during the fiscal year that ended June 30. The only time Purdue raised more in a single year was when it collected nearly $312 million in 2003.

The Journal & Courier reports that among the largest donations was about $61 million in software used in microelectronic and nanoscale research and a $10 million anonymous gift for construction of the Center for Student Excellence and Leadership.

Purdue president France Cordova says the fundraising totals show donors continue to support the university despite any ongoing economic troubles.
