KOKOMO, Ind. (The Kokomo Tribune) - The Indiana Department of Education has delayed the public release of statewide school letter grades.
The two-month delay is to give educators time to understand their schools’ grades under the new metric system, 24-Hour News 8’s news partner The Kokomo Tribune reports.
The delay also gives educators time to appeal if they need.
Grades will be released on Oct. 31.
Indiana became one of 10 states in February to get a waiver from provisions of the federal No Child Left Behind act which used standardized testing as an evaluation for school and district yearly progress.
Last year, Indiana state officials implemented their own accountability plan which uses an A to F grading system and places emphasis on the progress of the lowest-performing students.
